Xoxo.

How cute is my little girl going to be???

21 week update

Not much to update actually... Things seem to be moving along quite well! It's getting more interesting to sleep at night rolling from side to side trying to get comfortable around the growing belly and I think I'm developing a little waddle when I walk. Some new cravings this week include frosted flakes, caesar salad, and anything sweet! We have doctor's appointment this week so I'll update again if there's anything new! Here's a new picture of the growing belly, and remember the camera adds 10 pounds! Yikes.

It's a Girl!

Well, I am 21 weeks now (Yay for halfway!!) and we had our 20-week ultrasound last Saturday. I was super excited and could barely sleep all night knowing we'd be able to find out what we're having. I woke up about 6:15 that morning and starting chugging water. You have to drink a certain amount of water an hour and half before the appointment to make sure your bladder is full and is pushing everything into view! That wasn't the fun part... We got to the ultrasound place and met my mom, who we invited for the big day! The majority of the ultrasound was measurements of the head, legs, arms, heart, etc. It was amazing to see all of the baby's parts! At one point I think she got sick of us poking around because she did a complete flip in the opposite direction! During one part of the ultrasound the tech was measuring femur length and was right down between the legs, she didn't say anything but took a picture and just kept on going. That made me think she had seen something down there and immediately I thought it was a boy. Then we got to the end of the ultrasound where they really investigate the parts. The tech said, "has anyone ever told you the phrase 'three white lines?'" I knew immediately what that meant and shouted, "It's a GIRL????" The tech said, "YUP, It's a GIRL!." We all immediately got a little teary-eyed. She will be the first grand-daughter on both sides of the family, and will be so spoiled! It has become much more real to us now that we have seen her and know that she's a SHE! After the appointment my mom and I even went to the mall and got the first of many adorable little girl outfits. She's going to be the cutest ever!

Molly

UPDATE:

Good news! Molly is home from the vet, still sedated and tired, but home. She probably has something wrong with her cruciate ligament in her knee, but hopefully it will heal soon by itself. On the other hand, Izzy had a checkup while we were there to pick up Molly and apparently has heart worm. Disgusting. So, they did some blood work on Izzy to confirm the heart worm and if that comes back positive we're talking huge vet bill and many more trips to the vet for our Izzy... Oh boy. As if the this bill wasn't big enough. Maybe I will be picking up extra shifts in the near future at work... Ugh.

ORIGINAL POST:

I just took this one to the vet this morning because she's been limping and sometimes not even bearing weight on one of her back paws... To save some money we had my dad take an x-ray of her leg last night (haha), hoping it would be good enough for the vet to decide what's wrong... Apparently it wasn't because they had me leave her at the vet to sedate her and do a whole bunch of tests... I didn't think it would get to me so much, but as soon as I was signing the papers I just burst into tears. Thank you hormones. The woman at the vet thought I was crazy! I cried all the way home at the thought that I left my sweet Molly there. I can't believe how attached I am to these crazy dogs we have. It's hard to imagine that pretty soon there will be something we are even more attached to!

Don't worry all, I will update as soon as we bring her home tonight!

Cravings

I don't think that I've had any REAL cravings yet but with these around, how can you not crave them??

{I think we may have gone overboard with our ordering}

At least we're supporting a good cause?

Adventures in Nursing

I have an exciting job. I LOVE the fact that each day is different, each person has their own story, and everyday there is something to be learned. I also have a very weird, gross, and emotionally challenging job. But I love my job. My last day at work proves that in nursing you can never expect a dull day.
I came to work and got my patient assignment, 4 rather straightforward cases, or so I thought... One man had a GI bleed, usually not the patient you look forward to having. This involves the most disgusting smell you will ever smell in your entire life, usually blood transfusions, lots of trips to the commode, etc etc. Not pleasant. When I went into to meet the man he seemed like a nice normal guy... Then the night nurse giving me report proceeded to tell me how exactly my patient got the GI bleed. I'll keep this PG-rated as I think some of my older family members read this, (Hi Gramma!). Apparently the man had put something in his rectum for pleasure, and ended up with a very bad lower GI bleed. Apparently the man was unaware of his internal hemorrhoids. YUCK. Luckily, after one easy colonoscopy and a few clips inside his colon he was good to go!
One of my other patients was a 90-something year old woman admitted from a nearby skilled-nursing home. I forget her diagnosis, but it's unimportant to the gross story ahead. At breakfast the woman said she could feed herself just fine so I proceeded to set up her table and make sure she could swallow before leaving her to her own devices. After about 3o minutes it was apparent that she wasn't going to feed herself as she fell asleep in her breakfast. So as lunches came around and I knew my aide was busy I decided to be the nice nurse and help my little old lady eat. We got through the mashed potatoes, the turkey and most of the soup just fine. Then came a hard piece of celery from the soup and she bit right down on it with one of her two front teeth (these two teeth made up about 90% of the teeth she had left). I heard a loud crack and she spits her front tooth out at me... I almost puked. Probably one of the grossest moments in my nursing career. I can handle blood, poop, vomit, but not a nasty tooth! Especially because this left the old lady with only one front tooth, and really only one top tooth left. Oh, and my charge nurse made me save it! Nasty!
Later that afternoon we had an ROP student working on our floor. They are high school students who get class credit and come help out our nurses aides for a few hours each week. It was this particular girls second week at the hospital and the first week while helping with some vital signs she got cool, clammy and pale. We checked her blood pressure and it was 80/40, so we put her in the conference room and gave her a bunch of fluids, then sent her home early. This week someone decided it would be exciting for her to watch a PICC line placed (a catheter that goes from your arm all the way up into your heart.) This process involves a scalpel, blood, needles, etc. Not a good thing to watch if you're squeamish, and sure enough just minutes into the procedure the ROP student faints and falls head first to the ground. She woke up pretty quickly but didn't remember a thing and had a laceration on her chin. I wheeled her to the ER where she got a few stitches and proceeded to call her mom and mention nursing might not be the best career choice for her!
And that was just another day at my job!

Baby Update

Apparently my immune system took a big hit when I became pregnant because I have been sick so much in the last few months! I always thought I had a superb immune system, I rarely got a cold much less the flu and I felt that being around all the sick people I care for at work gave my immune system a little boost above others. The last couple months have proved me wrong! At work on Monday afternoon I started to feel a little queasy, typical "morning sickness" which I am still getting a couple times a week. I wasn't surprised when I threw up, but then it just kept coming, and I wasn't feeling any better, not typical for my "morning sickness." I left work about an hour early and went straight to bed when I got home only to have a night full of vomiting about every 90 minutes... Let's just say, not the most pleasant night. It continued into the morning and I started to get really worried about my little raspberry. Luckily I already had an appointment with my doctor scheduled the next day so I stuck it out and headed to the doctor on Wednesday.
Before every appointment the doctor has you pee in a cup to test things like protein, ketones, and sugar. The nurse came out to call us in and immediately asked if I had been sick. I knew that wasn't a good sign. Then I got on the scale and weighed less than I had during my initial visit, 4 months ago, another bad sign. She proceeded to ask just how sick I had been, asking my symptoms, etc. When we got into the room she told me my urine had positive ketones and protein, and then checked my blood pressure. I am usually 110/70... Yesterday is was 140/80. Yikes! Soon the doctor came in and told me just how bad I really was, uh oh. He assured me everything with the little raspberry was wonderful and we listened to his/her little heartbeat plugging away at 140 beats/min. He called our baby an "efficient little parasite" that isn't effected much by my sickness and assured us that everything was great. Then he told me just how worried he was about me! He almost wanted to start and IV on me to get some fluids in but said that I could probably do it just the same at home drinking lots of water and gatorade. So I have specific orders from the doc not to eat for a few days and basically drink my weight in water and gatorade. If I don't feel any better by tomorrow he said he'd stick an IV in me and pump me full of fluids... Something that actually sounds quite enticing right now. So that's the latest for now, I'm home laying on the couch watching numerous episodes of "A Baby Story" "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and all my dvr'd shows pounding the gatorade shots. Yum.

{17 week belly... it's growing!}

Oh, and we get to schedule my 20 week ultrasound sometime in the next couple weeks! We will finally find out if we're having a girl or a boy!!! What do you think it is??

Hey Ya'll

{Our Dallas Recap}
We are back from the hubby's business trip to Dallas and have lots of stories and pictures to share... It was an interesting experience for two California folks, as they say everything is bigger in Texas! We spent our first day driving to the small town of Cleburne to tour the Technical Chemical Company plant, and the cute little town. That evening we had a wonderful dinner at a revolving restaurant in the Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas. Excellent meal, company, and views of the city! The next day was our "tourism" day and we went to the Sixth Floor Museum, AKA: The JFK Museum. The museum is in the book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald worked and shot JFK from... They have the corner window set up just as it looked that day. But it also shares all the conspiracy theories, which makes you second guess everything you just saw! After that we went to the BODIES exhibit, something I have always wanted to see. Let's just say Tyler was much less interested in looking at dead bodies than hearing about JFK conspiracy theories. Oh well, the nurse in me loved the exhibit, I just wish I could still remember everything from my anatomy days. As big Top Chef fans we were excited to eat at Tom Colicchio's Craft restaurant that night and the food didn't disappoint! Saturday we headed home spending all day on planes or in airports... I'm sick of peanuts. Here are some pics, courtesy of iPhone!
